Fair use

After watching the video, Remix Culture: Fair Use is Your Friend, I realized that I had a lot of wrong ideas about what you can and can't use. I had believed that as long as it was for educational purposes you could use anything you wanted in anyway, copyrighted or not but the video explains in more depth that there are still rules and guidelines. I realized that I had done things correctly for the microtheme project but as I thought about it there are some projects in some of my other classes that I had not followed the proper steps with and have gone back to rework them to make sure I am not infringing on any copyrights. This video was a good guide but I am left with a lot of questions and will probably purchase the codes for best practices for fair use in online video to get all my answers.

After innocence

1: What did you learn from the movie?

For this project of silliness I watched After Innocence. I learned that our justice system isn't as good as we are led to believe. yes that's right, just because we live in america does not mean everything is perfect as we are shown in this riveting documentary that follows 7 people locked up anywhere from 7 to 22 years or more and released after being exonerated by DNA evidence.

2: What surprised you?

The only thing that really surprised me was just how many people are trying to appeal their convictions since the first case.

3: What questions remain after the viewing?

What is going to happen in our legal system to try to release as many innocent people from prison as possible.

4: What would you like to know more about?

I would like to know more about Innocence Project, an organization staffed with lawyers trying to exonerate the innocent.

5: What problematic concepts do you see in the film, concepts you might research and write about? Try to come up with at least five

1: although there is assistance for helping convicts re-enter society there is no help for exoneries.
2: a lot of people don't know the difference between a released convict and someone who has been exonerated.
3:the sheer numbers of people who have been exonerated, are in the process of being exonerated and the hundreds more who are waiting just to be heard from.
4: one of the people in the film was shown innocent 3 years before he was finally released because of bureaucratic bullcrap.

6: Was there a specific scene or segment that stayed with you and caused you to be curious? delighted? angry? motivated?

The a fore mentioned. It really ticks me off that someone can be kept locked up for so long after DNA testing shows he did not commit the crime just because some district attorney wants to keep a good conviction record.

Lights, Camera, Curtain!

Don't worry, I'm not going to do what everyone things I'm going to do and talk about how crappy this film was. I actually liked it. All I wanna know is, who liked it with me? Watching a man take an idea and put it to paper and then to take that idea and that piece of paper to a government agency and construction business to get it put into a massive project rocks. Christo strikes me as the kind of guy to go walking into these places and saying something such as "This is what I am going to do. What are you going to do to help me." because french artist just say epic stuff like that. personally one of my favorite and least favorite parts was watching the guys up on the wires. Being as afraid of heights as I am I cannot believe they would just slide on out there. It was amazingly beautiful when the curtain finally dropped.

I think I thought about it.

I often find myself unable to express myself on paper. This is probably why no matter what I write it comes out sounding far too formal or as complete gibberish. i have spent the past 4 days trying to work out how to do this assignment and finally ended up with 3 whole sentences so I am just going to wing it and hope i don't fail. Winging it is actually something i do quite often. I never did well in school due to it. As discussed in class effective writing comes from constant revision and i find myself unable to write anything until i have it all written out in my head so revision is all but forgotten. well not really forgotten just not given anytime because i only write for assignments and only get them done in time to turn in. I see this as a mental block of sorts and hope to be able to break through it and be able to write effectively and creatively.

First assignment for 1010

So I am supposed to write about what a thoughtful blog post looks like. Well i don't personally read blogs but i guess i would enjoy reading blogs of people who are equally as opinionated as I. By that i do not mean people of the same opinion as me but someone who if very strong in their beliefs and is willing to have verbally bloody battles over them. Not only should someone have strong ideas and opinions but also be able to express them in a clear and concise manner. The latter is personally a struggle for me but I hope that through reading other blogs from people who can express themselves clearly through writing i can increase me ability to do so. That is all.
